Welsh & Border Counties Hound Show

On June 30th 2011, The North Cotswold Hounds took The Welsh & Border Counties Hound Show at Builth Wells by storm.

Bitch Class

In the English Foxhound ring the day started with Grossmith and Growler taking 1st for the best couple of 'unentered' Doghounds.

And despite not being a large Dog pack like many of our competitors, the NCH won the Show's overall Doghound Championship with Bodmin (pictured below in full gallop alongside Nick Hopkins)

The afternoon was the Bitch judging and the strength & quality of the NCH bitches were obvious in all 5 of the classes entered. Our hounds were either first or second in every class entered plus achieving a "Special" prize in the unentered category.

The first class of the afternoon was Best Couple of 'unentered' bitches. NCH Grapefruit & Grapevine came 2nd out of 17 packs. And in a Special Prize for the Best single 'unentered' Bitch, NCH Grapefruit was crowned as best in Show.

The next class, the Coventry Cup (donated by the late Lady Maria Coventry - a great friend to the NCH & former hound trustee), was for the Best Couple of entered Bitches. Again against 19 other packs, NCH Dowager & Gridiron triumphed with 1st place!

The Coventry Cup was followed by the Best two Couple of entered Bitches. NCH Bobtail, Bobbin, Boston and Bounty walked over the 15 packs competing in the class and very quickly secured another 1st prize. Then in the very next class, the Best Brood Bitch, NCH Caroline was 2nd out of 14 entries.

The final class of the day was for the Champion Bitch. NCH Gridiron fought it out with the Duke of Beaufort's Harness, and in a very close call Gridiron was awarded Reserve Champion.

The NCH ended the day with many rosettes & silver trophies for individual classes, but Triumphed overall winning both the Champion Doghound and Reserve Champion Bitch. A great day to remember!

Congratulations to Nigel Peel for his superb breeding programme and to Nick Hopkins for showing our hounds to such advantage.
